When it comes to making money with Twitter, there are many question marks that pop up. People think that social media marketing requires a lot of work and time in order for it to take a positive effect on their business. From my own experience, I think it does to, but guess what? It is worth every second you put in it if planned and executed correctly.
Twitter, unlike any other social platform is very different in nature. The marketing you do on this microblogging platform should be handled with great care if you don’t want people to see you as a spammer. For this particular reason, most people are afraid to promote anything on their Twitter accounts. However, if you focus on providing real value to your followers and occasionally make some targeted promotions, people won’t really care because they already trust what you recommend.
Social media marketing is actually no different from search engine marketing. For both, there is a critical point that you should reach in order for you to be able to see real results. For search engines, it doesn’t matter if you’re on page 20, 10, 5 or even 2, but once your pages ranks in the first page of the search engine results (especially in the first spots), you’ll start seeing the results of your efforts that might have taken you weeks or even months.
In order for you to consistently make money using Twitter, you need to have a fair following that you’ve already established a relationship with. Most people don’t make any money from the promotions they do on Twitter mainly because they haven’t actually made it to their followers’ minds. Once your followers know and trust you, it will then become easier for you to make money with Twitter.
So How to Make Money on Twitter?
1- Promote Your Products/Services:
There is a general rule of thumb that you should tweet 80% useful content and do 20% promotion on Twitter. However, if you’re tweeting regularly, then you might want to lessen your promotions to let’s say 10%. If you provide a particular service (like social media management for example), you can promote it via your Twitter profile so interested followers might check it. This way you make sure that you reach potential clients who might want to make use of your services.
If you have a product that you’re promoting, then you can tweet about it once in a while to let your followers know about the different benefits to using it. I’ve seen really creative ways to promoting products through Twitter and that’s why you need to write interesting tweets that entice your followers into following the link and checking what you have to offer.
2- Affiliate Marketing:
Another great way to making money with Twitter is by promoting products that you’re an affiliate for. However, this could be easily abused if you don’t be careful of what you’re promoting. A general rule is to promote only products that you’ve tested yourself and found very useful.
You can tweet about your favorite products/services/courses along with your shortened affiliate link. If your tweet is interesting enough and the target sales page have a high conversion, then you’ll be making sales and getting commissions from your affiliate network.
3- Sponsored Tweets:
Sponsored tweets are much like sponsored posts. You allow your sponsor to post a tweet promoting their services or products for a fee. You’ll be paid according to the size of the following you have on Twitter in addition to the responsiveness of your followers (yes sponsors won’t fall for Twitter accounts that have a gazillion of fake followers).
There are some people who make as much as $300 per one tweet using this same technique (not to mention the celebrities who make almost five figures from just one tweet!). There are also dedicated services that link sponsors with Twitter marketers. The most known of them is called Sponsored Tweets. This service allows you to sign in with your Twitter account and then specify how much you would like to charge per tweet. After you’re set up, you can approve sponsored tweets that you see fit for your audience and get paid.
4- Using the Search Feature:
The Twitter search feature is probably one of the most useful features to you and your business. You can either use it to search for people who might need your services, your products or products that you are an affiliate for.
Let’s say that you’re a social media assistant and want to save the time and target only people who are interested in your services in that particular time. You can head to Twitter search and type in: [need “social media assistant”] without the brackets and Twitter will list users who have tweeted that they are in need of a social media assistant. You can either reply to their tweets directly, or follow the link (if they’ve included one) to their job posting.
You can also use Twitter’s search feature to promote your products or products that you might be an affiliate for. You can do this easily by using the search feature to search for users who have either tweeted about a problem they have or just asked a question that you know your affiliate product will answer. However, this could easily be considered spam if you don’t be careful. A good way to go is to engage into a conversation with the person who needs help first, and if they reply, then you can recommend whatever product you find useful to their situation because they are now more open to your suggestions.
Let’s say that you have a product that helps people get more fans on their Facebook pages. You can use search queries like: I need fans on my Facebook page OR I can’t get people to like my Facebook page OR how can I get targeted fans to like my Facebook page OR I want to learn Facebook marketing…etc (you got the point) and reply to their tweets using the previous strategy. If they reply, then you can recommend a product for them and embed your affiliate link into your tweet.
Tips when promoting
1- Try to be as professional as you could be.
2- Do not overuse any of the techniques I’ve mentioned above.
3- Never spam!
4- Craft your tweets in a way that entices people into reading them and clicking your link.
So have you used any of the techniques listed above. If so, let us know how effective it was for you!
