You should be, mainly because it’s probably the only activity you can do while doing another activity
We live in a crazy world today, and to be honest with you, there is very little time for a small business owner to consume content. We have a zillion and one problem to solve every day, and it’s hard to stay on the social media bandwagon when you have a business to run (Unless of course your business is social media!).
There are 2 reasons I love listening to podcasts besides the fact that they allow me to multitask:
1- For some mysterious reasons, I get most of my ideas when I’m listening to podcasts. I can’t explain this yet, but it seems that whenever I listen to a podcast, even if it’s something completely different from my industry, I get tons of ideas that I can implement in my business. If the same thing happens to you, then let me know in the comment section below this post. I’m starting to worry
2- They give me an extra push to get off my chair and go exercise. Sometimes I find a podcast episode so interesting that I can’t really wait until I go exercise and listen to it. So besides the business benefits of listening to podcasts, there is a health benefit involved as well!
Now that you know why I love podcasts, let’s jump into 5 of my all time favorite social media marketing podcasts. You should know that the list below is in no particular order. I equally enjoy listening to all the podcasts below simply because each one of them is very unique from the others.
1- The Social Pros Podcast!
Jay Baer calls this “the show for real people doing real work in social media” and there is really no better way to describe it other than this!
There is no better name than the one Jay chose for it. It’s really the social media marketing podcast for pros!
What I really like about this podcast show is that it’s one of the very few that focuses on strategy instead of tactics. You won’t probably find how to increase your fanbase in this podcast, but what you can find here is the big picture that will help you really connect the dots and understand what social media really is.
If I had to put this show into a category, I would definitely put it into the “Advanced” section. It mainly features social media folks from big companies, but it is a goldmine for small business owners to take a peek at how big corporations run their social media marketing campaigns.
2- The Social Media Marketing Podcast
The reason you should listen to Michael is because he’s done something that very few people can do. Although his experience was in the white paper business, he managed to build the most popular social media marketing blog in the world!
You can read about Michael’s inspiring story and process of how he did it in his book “Launch: How to Quickly Propel Your Business Beyond the Competition”
The great thing about this podcast show is that every episode is a must listen for me personally. He runs the biggest social media marketing blog, so he basically knows what every business owner or marketer is struggling with. The podcast has a ton of actionable advice that you can implement right away.
3- The Online Marketing Made Easy Podcast
This podcast is produced by Amy Porterfield co-author of “Facebook Marketing All in One for Dummies”. In this show, Amy talks about everything online marketing including: social media marketing, lead generation, content marketing…etc.
Amy used to work with Tony Robbins before she realized that her true passion was helping small business owners market their business more effectively. She’s really honest about how she runs her business as well as her clients’. The advice she provides on her podcast is solid and proven to work!
What I really like about this podcast besides the super useful and actionable information Amy provides is that she connects the dots for small business owners so they can see how these online mediums work together in order to make more profit. This is super important because most businesses fail to design an integrated strategy that connects all of these online mediums together.
If you’re a small business owners or entrepreneur, then you can’t afford to miss this podcast!
4- The Social Triggers Insider
You probably know Derek from the famous website reviews he did with the top people in the industry. He used to run celebrity blogs in the past, where he was able to generate millions of visitors to his websites. Derek then decided to start Social Triggers so he can teach what he learned before to small business owners, entrepreneurs and startups.
Although the name of the podcast might indicate that it’s about social media, I can tell you that it’s more than that. Derek brings top academic teachers/researchers from top universities to talk about the power of persuasion and how you can use it to improve your conversions. The podcast is basically a mix of psychological principals that you can use to market your business.
What I like about the social triggers insider is that the advice Derek shares is backed up by academic research and not some theories or assumptions. Derek is a dynamic and super smart marketer, and he will definitely change the way you market your business.
5- The Six pixels of Separation: Twist Image Podcast
From the name of the podcast alone, you can definitely tell that there is something futuristic about it. Mitch Joel is one of the very early podcasters to talk about business, technology and digital marketing. Marketing Magazine dubbed him the “Rock Star of Digital Marketing” and you’ll see why when you listen to his podcast. He is a true visionary and one of the few that really understand how technology is changing the way we live and do business.
The thing I like about this podcast show is that when I listen to it, it feels like I’m watching a Sci-Fi TV Show.
I’m not kidding!
Mitch doesn’t just talk about where business and marketing are at now, but also gives predictions on how things will look like years from now. He doesn’t only talk about social media marketing, but also about anything related to business, technology and digital marketing.
In addition to the Twist Image regular podcast, Mitch has a periodic show called “Media Hacks”. He holds a roundtable along with Chris Brogan, C.C Chapman, Christopher S. Penn, Julien Smith and Hugh McGuire.
Can you imagine all of these awesome people in the same podcast episode? Mind-blowing!
These were my all-time favorite social media marketing podcasts. If you have any other podcast you enjoy listening to, I would love for you to mention it in the comment section below!
